Föhn "Warm Wind" Restoration and Enjoyment of a 1974 Seafarer 31' Mark I Yawl |
||||
|
Welcome to our site about the restoration of a 1974 Seafarer Mark I yawl!! We are NOT professional marine restorers, but hope that this site can provide assistance and tips to others undergoing the trials and tribulations of restoring of a boat. Her name is Föhn, which is German for "a convection wind apart from weather systems" (the official translation). A German friend says they just translate it as "warm wind"! It's pronounced like you are saying "fern", but not quite getting the "r" out. Föhn was custom built in 1974 by Seafarer and is a "tall rig" yawl with a 36' mast. The owners were close friends and we had loads of fun sailing on her with them. Although we had our own sailboat, a 20' Celebrity sloop, they taught us how to "really sail" aboard Föhn! We purchased her in the fall of 1999 (see "How We Got Föhn") and set about on a cleanup and upgrading hoping to be back in the water the following season. Two years later, she has undergone a complete restoration...... GO FIGURE!! Howard and Judy Hampson
